There are two kinds of people in the morning: those who wake up ready to take on the day and those who hit snooze as many times as possible. Some people wake up easily, while others need a serious wake-up call. Spiritually, the same is true. Many people are walking through life asleep to God, unaware of His love, His presence, and His purpose for them.
Ephesians 5:14 (NLT) says, “Awake, O sleeper, rise up from the dead, and Christ will give you light.”
This verse reminds us that waking up to God isn’t just about awareness; it’s about transformation. When we wake up to God, we rise up to new life. Being alive doesn’t mean you’re truly living. It’s easy to go through the motions, doing the same things day after day, without ever experiencing the fullness of life God offers. But the Good News is that Jesus didn’t just come to make bad people good; He came to make dead people alive. He came to wake us up.
Before we know Christ, we are spiritually asleep. We might be breathing, working, and socializing, but deep down, something feels missing. Maybe you’ve felt that emptiness before—like there should be more to life. The truth is, there is more. Jesus didn’t just rise from the grave only to show His power over death; He rose to give us new life.
Ephesians 2:4-5 (NLT) declares, “But God is so rich in mercy, and he loved us so much, that even though we were dead because of our sins, he gave us life when he raised Christ from the dead.” This is the gospel—the good news that Jesus died for our sins and rose again so that we could live in His grace, free from guilt and shame.
Faith is the difference between just moving through life and having more life move through you. When we wake up to God, we rise up to a new way of living—one filled with purpose, gratitude, and hope. This resurrection life isn’t about striving for perfection; it’s about letting God’s Spirit transform us from the inside out. When we rise up in faith, we begin to see ourselves as God sees us—forgiven, loved, chosen, and full of purpose.
So, wake up to the good news. Rise up to new life. Step into the fullness of what God has for you. Awake, O sleeper. Rise up from the dead. And Christ will give you light.
