I’m talking about lugging around hurt, disappointment, bitterness, anger, challenges, and unforgiveness. When your hands are so busy carrying all of that pain, it’s hard to hold onto hope.

Even on a family vacation, I found myself grumbling in my mind, focusing on what bothered me instead of enjoying the time. The Israelites in the book of Numbers struggled with the same challenge.

But it’s a completely different story when we’re the ones being changed. Suddenly, we’re no longer in control of what’s coming next. Like the Israelites wandering in the wilderness, we can begin to feel lost and unsure of God’s direction or leading. In seasons like this, I love to turn to the Psalms for comfort and guidance.

The gap between our expectations and our experience can get so wide that we start to live like the best days are behind us and like the worst is on the way. But here is the good news: if Jesus rose from the dead, then we have every reason to hope. Our future is bright, even if we go through hard things to get there. You can expect great things from your great God.

Jesus invites us to lay down the crushing weight of self-sufficiency, fear, and striving for perfection, and instead partner with him and walk in the freedom of being fully loved as His adopted children.

By: Lori Wilhite, Pastor — Joy, gladness, rejoicing, and happiness are meant to be experienced. The problem isn’t that God doesn’t want us to be happy. The problem is that we’re chasing happy in the wrong things, looking for it in all the wrong places.

Every time you face a mess, remind yourself of this logic: God has already given His best in Jesus. He won’t stop providing now. Even in loss, in struggle, in uncertainty, He remains faithful.

By: Lorraine Eastman, Legacy Pastor — My prayer is that we would learn to listen for His song, a song of redemption, peace, and unending love. I encourage you to hold onto this verse. Memorize it. Return to it when you feel overwhelmed, discouraged, or alone.
