It’s hard to believe we’re already in August. The year is more than halfway gone. Summer is winding down (although the Vegas weather is not), school has started back up, and before we know it, we’ll be celebrating another Christmas. Time has a way of moving faster than we realize.
Ecclesiastes 3:1 says: “For everything there is a season, a time for every activity under heaven.”
Every season has a beginning and an end. And while we can’t control how quickly time passes, we can choose how we experience the moments God has given us. Sometimes we spend so much time looking back at what was or looking ahead to what’s next that we miss what is happening right now.
Maybe you’re waiting for your kids to get a little older. Waiting for your adult children to check in. Waiting for a new job. Waiting for a relationship. Waiting for life to feel a little more settled. But what if God wants to meet you right here?
Luke 10 tells us about Martha and Mary. Martha was busy preparing everything for Jesus, while Mary simply sat at His feet and listened. Jesus said: “My dear Martha, you are worried and upset over all these details! There is only one thing worth being concerned about. Mary has discovered it…” Luke 10:41- 42
Mary was present.
She wasn’t trying to get to the next thing. She wasn’t worrying about what needed to happen afterward. She was simply there, with Jesus. And maybe that’s an invitation for us, too.
Pay attention to the life God has given you today. Notice the conversation with your spouse. Enjoy the meal around the table. Listen to your child tell you a story you’ve already heard three times. Take a moment to appreciate the people God has placed around you. Notice His presence in the ordinary.
Ecclesiastes 3:11 says: “Yet God has made everything beautiful for its own time. He has planted eternity in the human heart…”
There is beauty in the season you’re in right now, even if it’s not the season you would have chosen.
So as we step into the second half of 2026, don’t wish this season away while waiting for the next one. Be here. Be present with your family. Be present with your friends. Be present in your work. Be present in your church. And most importantly, be present with Jesus.
Because this exact moment will never happen again. The season you’re in won’t last forever. So don’t miss the beauty of today because you’re already thinking about tomorrow.
Receive today as the gift God has placed in your hands. Don’t rush past it or wait for tomorrow to fully appreciate what He has given you right now. Slow down enough to notice His presence, to recognize the beauty in the ordinary, and to thank Him for the moments you might otherwise overlook. And when tomorrow comes, trust that the same God who is faithful today will already be there, holding whatever comes next.
Wherever you are today, pause for a moment.
Look around.
Take a breath.
Thank God for the people, opportunities, and ordinary moments He has placed in front of you.
Then ask: “God, what do You want me to notice today?”
You don’t have to figure out the future.
Just be present for today.
God is already there.
